The Chihuly Collection at the Morean Art Centre
The Chihuly Collection at the Morean Art Centre in St. Petersburg is a must-see on a day trip to St Pete. Located at 720 Central Avenue, it is right in the heart of the downtown arts district and easy to find.
Dale Chihuly is an American artist who is known for his unique, breathtaking glass artwork. The building that houses the St Petersburg collection was designed specifically for this permanent installation of Chihuly’s work and it makes all the difference in how you view the art. Some of his famous works including Macchia, Ikebana, Niijima Floats, Persians and Tumbleweeds can all be viewed. My favorite was the Ruby Red Icicle Chandelier.
Although not a large museum, give yourself at least two hours to visit. You will need an hour to watch the fascinating video of how Chihuly and his team create these amazing pieces.
Ticket prices are as follows: Adult: $19.95; Senior (Ages 65+) and Military: $17.95; Student (6 to 18 years old and anybody with a valid college ID): $12.95 and Children (5 years old and under and free.
